Night out. Did you have a night out with friends or a loved one that rocked your world? Who was there? What was the highlight of the night?
Rather than talk about one night with friends, I am going to highlight a tradition that began in 2009 and focuses on a night-IN with friends. Somehow it came to be that every Sunday evening Jeff and I host a “family supper” with Emily and Rhiannon. We started this ritual when we bought a t.v. and got cable, to watch football. Sunday night football just seems cozy to me and it seemed appropriate to invite my sister (Emily) and our very good friend (Rhiannon) over to watch Sunday night football. The tradition has lasted a few months and we continually make it a priority in all of our lives. We watch football, eat supper, watch Amazing Race, and finish with a dessert. Throughout the evening we drink wine, chat about our respective weekends and upcoming weeks, and to be quite honest we act as a family. It is the one space that you can gather with friends over supper and do anything you want- sometimes we are each doing our own thing, working on a crossword or suduko puzzle, surfing the internet, prepping for the upcoming week, or watching the t.v. intently. It really doesn’t matter what it is we are doing, what matters is that we have set the time aside to be together and to enjoy food, wine, and friendship all together.
Let’s raise a glass to Sunday night supper.
