Dec 2, 2009: Best Restaurant Moment of 2009

Restaurant moment. Share the best restaurant experience you had this year. Who was there? What made it amazing? What taste stands out in your mind?

My best restaurant moment of 2009 is from February 14, 2009 (Valentine’s Day).  Jeff and I went to Whistler for the day- enjoyed great snow and a long day of snowboarding.  It was a perfect way to spend the day together.  As always, we end our snowboard day with Apres at one of the pubs at the base of Whistler.  We went into one of the pubs, enjoyed some well deserved beers and nachos and had a great time recapping our day together.  While we were talking about our day Jeff mentioned how great it would be to just stay the night in Whistler and just enjoy the beers and atmosphere after a long day of boarding vs. driving back to Vancouver.  I thought this was a great idea, so I said “Well let’s give it a try!  I will stay here, with the gear and you go to a couple of hotels and see if we can get a good last minute deal.”  Jeff ran off and I could see him running between different hotels from where we sat.  I loved how spontaneous this could turn out to be and the fact that he just got up and did the re-con.  He came back with no luck, so I took over- ran to a few more hotels and came back, head down, with no luck at all either.  We did manage to find one hotel room for $1500/night.
We did drive home that night, back to Vancouver, but I still think of it as one of the best restaurant moments of 2009.  It was everything I love- beers, nachos, and spontaneity.

  1. What about quasi-homemade soup at the Grandeville Island food court followed by spirits in oversized comfy chairs at Sandbar, eh?
